I used to enjoy FarCry2 pre-patch, having to work up diamonds to play classes that were all different and equal mid-game. Having a secondary opinion on this helps me determine if it's worth campaigning at all, or just forgetting the whole thing to play other games.
#Enter the ninja dance Patch#
Requesting a patch to rebalance the weapon models is a futile task Far Cry 2 support is near zero and the overall community is probably happy with the AR-16. What could be done about this? Probably nothing. The only sure fire counter, the MGL, is now a pillow launcher that doesn't even make a kill upon direct hit. The only weapons able to have even a remote chance against a Saboteur in most situations are the Saw and Paratrooper, but the AR-16 has an advantage of distance and accuracy over both of them. In order to combat a squad of Saboteurs, you need to have a squad of saboteurs, limiting the playing field even more because of the extreme danger this 3-shot, 95% accurate, super-strong weapon presents. This makes all other classes, even Sharpshooter, a disadvantageous choice for players to make. The AR-16 is more accurate and stronger than the Paratrooper over longer distances, giving Saboteur Mid-to-long range superiority. What's happening now is even worse than what happened with Commando. This strength boost boggles my mind, since it was already obvious there was no necessity to give the weapon extra damage.
#Enter the ninja dance full#
The weapon already outgunned Commando's Paratrooper in most situations and was also one of the top choices for a full diamond upgrade. Then, for some unfathomable reasons, it was decided to increase the damage to the Saboteur's AR-16 to unstoppable strengths. Even without the Paratrooper, I was able to rack up points just like any of the top COmmandos in any game. Taking a page from personal experience, I almost exclusively ignored the Commando class during gameplay. They weren't super-men, as they could be evenly matched or even outgunned by everyone else once a few diamonds were in place. It was just boring, to have everyone use the same class. However, it wasn't extremely gamebreaking. Having middle-ground superiority over all other classes for at least 2 diamond upgrades forces other players to use the Commando as a counter to itself, blaketing the playing field with Commando-using players. The Commando's extreme balance and power was a threat to every other class that wasn't upgraded to full, forcing players to use, exlusively, the Commando class to rank up.
#Enter the ninja dance update#
Prior to the latest update on Xbox360, there was only one game killer identified by those who understood the game's balance. In this instance, for Far Cry 2, I use the term to describe an extreme imbalance among the classes. It is often exploited by the mass majority of players which alters the way people play that particular game. In competitive games, it's usually something that has imbalanced attributes in comparison to all other choices a player could make. A game killer is something that drastically pulls gameplay towards a direction not initially intended by the developers.
